M/Sgt. John C. McMullen, 36, formerly of Waverly, collapsed and died following a physical fitness test at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Mont. on Friday afternoon, May 29.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1944 in Kingman, Ariz., the son of Lowell and Alice Eder McMullen. At an early age he moved with his parents to Ironwood, Mich., and later to Milwaukee, Wis., where he graduated from high school. He joined the United States Air Force 19 years ago.
He was stationed at Okinawa, Greenland, and Waverly, where he met and married Diana Heidemann, daughter of George and Hazel Heidemann of Janesville, on Nov. 11, 1967 in Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly.
Prior to moving to Great Falls, Mont. in 1980, they spent three years in Bremerhaven, Germany.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; two sons, John and Mark, both at home; his parents, Lowell and Alice McMullen of Milwaukee, Wis.; and three sisters, Connie Penkivech of Greenfield, Wis., Mary Darling of Danville, Calif., and Geri McMullen of Milwaukee, Wis.
Full military funeral services will be Wednesday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly, with Services Sqdn., 3902 Air Base Wing, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., in charge.
Memorial services will be held at the same time on Wednesday at the Base Chapel, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Mont. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
