David Vern Goodsell, 78, of Denver, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 at the UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

Dave was born on November 13, 1940 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Vern Stanley and Faye Ione (Aikey) Goodsell. He graduated from Denver High school and then attended the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) for a year. He served in the United States Army in the Dominican Republic from 1963-1965. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Shultz on December 30, 1967 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo.

Dave farmed with his father and he also worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, skydiving, his dogs and had a love for animals. Dave is survived by his wife, Carolyn Goodsell of Denver; a daughter, Jaci Goodsell of Denver; a son, Alan Goodsell of Waterloo and his sister-in-law, Kathy (Ronnie) Herman of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Goodsell and Sandra Stephens; and a brother-in-law, James Stephens.

Dave’s body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program and there will be a private burial of his cremains at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Retrieving Freedom in Waverly and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com
