Born in Ger. Sept. 6, 1839.

Came to America as a [y]oung man learning the trade of cigar maker settled in Mascautah Ill. married there Mar 19, 1864 to Fredericka. Kenning who was born in West Pholen Ger. Aug. 29, 1844 she died at Waverly Ia. 14, 1906.

Mr S enlisted perhaps from St. Louis Mo early in April 19861 and served 16 months in Co. D. 1 and 2 Mo. Inf. Transferred to Co. G. 5 Mo. Inf and was discharge[d] in Sept. 1862 from disability due to service from Co. D. US RC

After this return to his house in Ill. shich was but a short way from St. Louis and after his marriage at Mascoutah Il. they came directly to Waverly Ia. to them were born 8 children Wm. Albert Louis Pauline Susan Rose Louise and Crala.

They were memvers of St. Pauls Lutheran church here and considered exceptiona[lly] good respected German citizens of which Waverly as for years been a center for many German speaking families.

Mr. S. survived his wife but a couple of yars he died here Sept. 3, 1898 and buried beside/ the grave of his wife.
