Lap Robes
A blanket is given to each inpatient shortly after admission to the hospital. These blankets should be made of soft, new material (not made of used clothing/draperies/linens) or be new/store bought and approximately 4' x 5' or larger. Blankets with tags that include last names or any form of contact information cannot be distributed.
Clothing
All clothing items must be new/unused in original package and/or with tags. The most commonly distributed items include sweatshirts, sweatpants and T-shirts in sizes small through 5X (limited need for sizes 2X to 5X). During cooler weather, coats, hats and gloves are welcomed.
Gift Cards
Visa gift cards or gift cars for commonly-found stores (Target, Wal-Mart, etc.) are used for patients in need of general assistance. Gas gift cards can also be used for patients who need assistance with transportation expenses. Restaurant gift cards can be provided to patients staying in Iowa City during their treatment who cannot afford their own meals outside the hospital. Recommended gift card amounts are $10.00 to $25.00 per card.
Greeting Cards
Cards to send well wishes to our patients are welcome throughout the year. Simple messages such as "Thank You For Your Service," and "Thinking Of You," are recommended. During the holiday season, phrases such as "Happy Holidays," and "Seasons Greetings," are ideal. Please refrain from sealing cards in envelopes, sending cards with glitter or political references, and providing your full name and/or contact information (first names are acceptable). We do not accept blank or unfilled greeting cards (birthday, sympathy cards, etc.).
