Taken prisoner at Atlanta July 22, ’64 and exch. 9-22-64 Prom. 4 Cpl 11-29-63 Re-enlist 1-4-64, Prom 3 Cple 7-1-64, 2 cpl 1-1-65, 5 Sgt 4-1-65 – 4 sgt. 7-1-1865. Born in Freiberg Baden Germany Nov. 14 1838 Came to America (Columbia Co. New York) in 1847; came to Iowa in 1852; with his brothers he started a brick yeard here; later purchased a farm east of Waverly. He was married Nov. 3. 1872 to Elizabeth Gishbert. Promoted to 4 Corp 11-29-1863, re-enlisted 1-4-1864, made 3 Corp 7-1-64 and 2 corp 1-1-65, prom. to 5 sgt 5-1-65 and to 4 sgt 7-1-65. One son Albert was in world war and deceased in Jan 1930, two other sons were deceased young (Edward and Aloysius)
