
Bremer County is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Roadside Vegetation Management Aide.
Employment Period:
April through October with time period somewhat flexible for students.
Duties:
The Roadside Vegetation Management Aide will assist the Roadside Vegetation Manager with all aspects of managing roadside vegetation. This will include, but is not limited to: controlling noxious weeds, conducting prescribed burns, roadside mowing, managing and removal of roadside trees and brush, planting right-of-way vegetation, erosion control, maintenance of existing plantings and routine maintenance on department equipment. The aide will also assist in other department related programs/projects.
Requirements and Certifications:
Must be a self-motivated individual with the ability to apply common sense and have the knowledge to achieve goals and objectives. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn about grassland management and plant identification. The ability to routinely stand, walk, kneel, stoop, balance, climb and operate power and hand tools. Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and be exposed to dust, fumes, and loud noises; and have the ability to routinely lift 75 lbs; ability to follow written and oral instructions. Applicant must possess or acquire a Category 6 Right-of-Way Iowa Pesticide certification within 30 days of hire. Knowledge of truck, tractor and small engine powered equipment operation and maintenance. Must be 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
Salary:
$10.00 – 11.00/Hour Dependent on qualifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with planting and maintenance of right-of-way vegetation.
- Assist with erosion control on right-of-way plantings.
